Red Rock Canyon – All you need to know

The Red Rock Canyon is a gorgeous rock formation 24km west of Las Vegas. It’s managed by the bureau of land management and protected as a National Conservation Area. From the Las Vegas Strip, you can easily see its sandstone peaks and bright red walls. The Calico Tanks trail has beautiful jumbled sandstones that lead to a hidden water pocket and a stunning view of Las Vegas. This trail is good for families and foreign visitors who want an introduction to what the Red Rock Canyon is all about. The hike combines elements of geology, history and fun, making the experience amazing. The Moenkopi Loop is another beautiful trail with Triassic fossils and a variety of desert fossils. As you walk on the trail you are sure to catch a panoramic view of the Wilson Cliffs. Bike Tours If you want to explore the Red Rock Canyon on wheels, you have the option of taking a bike tour led by a knowledgeable guide. You can enjoy a 4 hour tour on an electric bike across the many trails in the canyon. For convenience, you get to choose from the numerous departure times and you can also stop to snap shots of the breath taking views in the canyon. If you are staying at the Strip, you can be picked from your hotel and taken to the canyon for your tour. For those who are lone wolves, you can take a self-guided tour of the canyon and explore the various trails in the conservation. Nature lovers If you are into nature the Red Rock Canyon has a lot to offer. The conservation has a wide variety of desert vegetation including shrubs. One of the most notable animals in the conservation is the antelope ground squirrel. When you see it you may assume it’s a chipmunk. This little creature can be found almost everywhere in the canyon. Luckily, they don’t bite. Camping A night under the stars is always the best way to relax. At the Red Rock Canyon, you can enjoy camping under the Nevada night sky. The conservation has numerous camping sites that offer a terrific venue for spending the night with friends. It is an awesome quiet camping site away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Red Rock offers scenic views, nature trials, bike tours, hiking sites, starry skies, and camp outs. The visitors centre is open daily from 8am to 4:30 pm and the scenic drive is open every day from 6am. |
